SMS alerts are entirely optional. You can create an account and use every part of MSF without ever enabling text alerts. Opting in to SMS alerts is never required to access or use the Service, and is never bundled with account creation, login, or acceptance of our Privacy Policy or Terms of Service.
No messages are sent until a user has verified their phone number and affirmatively checked at least one alert box. Pre-checked boxes, implied consent, and third-party opt-in are never used. Consent is recorded in our database at the time the user checks a box, tied to that specific alert type and model.
Disclosure shown at phone verification (before any consent is collected):
We'll text a one-time 6-digit code to this number solely to verify you own it. This verification step does not enroll you in any recurring alerts — you'll choose which alerts to turn on, separately, after verifying. Msg & data rates may apply to the verification text.
Consent language shown above the alert checkboxes, once verified:
SMS alerts are optional. By checking a box below, you agree to receive recurring automated SMS text message alerts from MSF, at the number verified above, for the specific alert type(s) you enable. These are account notifications about macroeconomic model updates and regime changes — not marketing messages. Message frequency varies based on your settings (typically fewer than once per week). Msg & data rates may apply. Reply STOP to unsubscribe and HELP for help. Consent is not required to use MSF and is never a condition of any purchase.
This consent language is displayed directly above the alert checkboxes on the Profile page, separate from the phone verification step and from acceptance of the Privacy Policy or Terms of Service. Nothing about creating an MSF account, logging in, verifying a phone number, or using any other feature of the Service requires SMS opt-in — a user can decline this feature entirely and continue using MSF normally.
MSF does not send marketing messages, promotional content, or messages unrelated to regime change alerts. Message frequency depends entirely on model output — typically fewer than once per week.
Example message:
MSF MP 0.6.0: Regime change detected — Deflation → Disinflation. Probabilities: Disinflation 42.3% | Reflation 28.1% | Stagflation 18.4% | Deflation 11.2%. Reply STOP to unsubscribe.
After opting out, no further messages will be sent. To re-enable alerts, the user must return to their Profile page and opt in again.
